Havn Life is turning mushrooms into modern medicine, where science meets nature.

This company is on the cutting edge of research for micro-dosing psychedelics as a therapeutic intervention for improving mental health, particularly for those living with PTSD and/or other trauma-related disorders. This is what the future of modern medicine looks like – using evidence-based research to extract psychedelic novel compounds found in nature. We are talking plant-based medicine as opposed to pharmaceuticals.

My interest in the work and products of this company is both professional and personal. As a Social Worker (MSW) and Certified Trauma Counsellor, I have had the sacred privilege of supporting people during the worst possible moments of their lives. In my work, I often struggled with vicarious trauma, as well as dealing with significant personal ordeals that ultimately resulted in adrenal fatigue and a compromised immune system. As someone who does not participate in use of pharmaceutical interventions and is also a Certified Holistic Nutritionist, the potential for wellness support, physical and mental, embedded in nature has always been of great interest to me.

And, let’s be honest, the onset of a global pandemic has wreaked chaos on mental health. I know for a fact that the increase in use of anti-depressants has exploded, in-patient mental health services are over capacity, support helplines are ringing off the hook, and the suicide rate is beyond tragic. There has never been a greater time or need for non-Big Pharma alternatives to support mental health, ones that are natural, safe, quality-controlled and effective.

Why mushrooms? Mushrooms are the motherload of health benefits. This antioxidant saturated superfood can target everything from immunity to brain function to free radical cell damage, just to name a few jobs they do. They are a ‘functional food’, meaning they have benefits beyond just basic nutrition; they will boost health in ways that serve a specific purpose. They also contain psilocybin, a psycho-active compound that is showing promise in effectively treating symptoms of many mental health concerns, as well as generally improving overall human potential.

While Havn Life has a number of products, I have started using the supplement called Mind Mushroom. The capsules contain a combination of chaga, reishe, lion’s mane and cordecyps. Because there are four different sources of mushrooms, it would take forever to denote the wealth of benefits. This blend primarily serves to fight free radicals, balance the immune system, increase energy and help the body adapt to stress. I personally value these more specific attributes:

  • Cordyceps: Adrenal support, balances cortisol, helps the body adapt to anxiety and stressors
  • Reishi: Sleep support, anxiety and stress management
  • Chaga: Energy booster, also great for skin and hair
  • Lion’s Mane:  Improves brain activity, focus, and memory recall. (Calling all peri-menopausal woman! Two words: Brain. Fog.)

If you are thinking that you don’t identify with those issues specifically, let me also add that in general terms, these mushrooms work very hard at being immune boosting, anti-inflammatory, and anti-viral.

Truthfully, I have just started taking this product so I cannot offer solid insights into my personal results just yet.  Mind Mushroom capsules are vegan, gluten-free and non-GMO. They are easy to swallow and have no discernable smell. The recommended dose is 1-3 capsules per day, and they are formulated for maximum potency and bio-availability. They have a good shelf life, roughly 2 years. The product is Canadian made and the company operates out of Vancouver, B.C. Yay to supporting local.
